Wagaya no Oinari-Sama 13 - Seira Fuku

Oh man, I love this anime so much. I did wish it had a bit more of a romantic flair to it but oh well. It has been quite a good mix so far - loads of supernatural action and hilarious comedy. It has been one of my absolute favourites of the season. Mostly, it owes it all to Kuu, Kou and Sakura (who is extremely funny for so little screen time). They all came into their own this episode too. I especially like the return of delusional Sakura, really getting crazy trying to figure out Noboru’s relationship with Kuu and Kou, especially at her misunderstanding of Kuu on his shoulders. Also, Kuu in a school uniform is just brilliant.

Miyabe had an abrupt entrance and a random (but catchy - can’t wait for a single or Character CD) song, but at least she has been developed somewhat. And it seems that poor Sakura has yet another ‘rival’ for Noboru. Things can only get better from here! I can’t wait!

The plot seems to be picking up from what we see after the closing credits with the Nun revealed to have horns, and also from the introduction of another Tenko and Miyabe seems to show some interest in Noboru. At times like this, I may just have to watch it raw as I am saddened to see the subbing going so slowly. T_T

Sorry - Anime Took A Backseat To War (Hammer)

Please excuse the bad picture. My camera is damaged.

It has been a little hectic the past few weeks. Like every summer, I once again went back to my Warhammer 40000 obsession. This year was very exciting as the 5th edition just came out last week and I have been frantically building my Tau army in preparation for it. So far the new system has been great and easy to transition in. So far I have had some wins and draws though against necrons and space marines (hoping this undefeated streak lasts) so I think I have gotten better since last year where I struggled for a draw.

Also during such times, I was helping my sister get into the hobby, helping her with her initial set of Tyranids. She has a decent sized force built up much faster than I ever had. Also with improving my skills as a painter, I have been redoing my old ultramarines army to look better. So far so good.

The excitement has glossed over and I am now into a more laid back approach which has freed up more of my time while still getting in some spectacular battles and so now I return to anime and hopefully anime blogging too. I’ve only been keeping up with Code Geass and Wagaya no Oinari-sama so they shall be first and then I need to catch up on some important series like Macross Frontier. I still have to review Ranka’s new single which was glorious and I hope a certain VacationingKid will be able to get me the CDs.

Here’s hoping I get back on track quickly… XD

Kara no Kyoukai 02 - Move Over SHIKI There Are Two More In Town

I am absolutely loving Kara no Kyoukai. I’ve read some of the novels and am hitting this with a more critical eye but man, it is not disappointing to any degree. I am ecstatic at the adaptation. Now if only Tsukihime had a good adaptation, and perhaps FS/N a better one, I would be extremely happy. Perhaps movies or OVAs, as Kara no Kyoukai is enjoying such wondrous animation, the movement being very flowing and beautiful.

It is nice seeing some of the themes that popped up in Tsukihime here, in its predated form and the concept still works quite well. Shiki and SHIKI was a cool idea to me (one who is completely lost at Kanji, learning but failing). Here however, instead of two separate people this is two separate identities/personalities in one girl. I must say, I enjoyed SHIKI’s rougher and more fun loving personality from the little date they were on. I was quite to see and jarring from seeing Shiki’s usual stoic nature. Such a cute adorable side to her.

A little nod to Tsukihime… I need some translated media with Len introduced and more explained, preferably the visual novel.

I just love this scene. It has struck me as weird that I am thoroughly enjoying such a slow pace in the story as that is normally not my thing, but I suspect it is the atmosphere and the suspense of the story which is really driving it with the characters highlighting it. Got to love that pathetic fallacy.

Kokuto, apart from being entirely useless, reminds me visually of Shiki Tohno but they seemed so different as Kokuto was frantically rushing through the bamboo grove desperately trying to escape death. It was amusing to watch, more so in contrast with the graceful chase by Shiki.

I must say the ending was exquisite. Kokuto’s forced plea “I don’t want to die” only to be answered with Shiki’s “I want to kill you” was such an awesome moment. The ending is somewhat vague but I can forgive that. The next one should be simply stunning as it deals with the incident with Asagami where we should see even better action scenes than the first part.

I find the ordering non-chronologically to be a little weird, but less jarring than it should be. Perhaps because I have already experienced it with the novel. This feeling of wanting to know more and what happens next is heightened by that, and I absolutely love it. This is definitely going to be one of my most favourite series (I need not watch the rest to know that). Seriously cannot wait for more. XD

Code Geass R2 10 - The Difference Between Tactics And Strategy

The difference? I thought it was spelling… This episode was a little lack luster with the all too brief fights even though they had the new awesome Knightmare Frames which seem to be getting ridiculous in power. The Gurren vs the Shenhu was a glorified laser tug of war almost, which ended as lamely with Kallen conveniently running out of power.

Tianzi is somewhat like Kaguya, and is extremely likable. Her taking zips at the straw was quite cute and I like the dynamic between her and Kaguya a lot. Her and Kaguya together in a soundproof room… One could only imagine the doujins which will be made later.

I am a bit pissed, C.C.(my favourite character of this show) is reduced to a lowly truck driver and from the looks of it, she had enough time to customise her work station (read: truck cabin). One has to wonder how much pizza she had to eat to get these prizes especially so considering how little pizza she has eaten recently.

Fugliest mech ever. So the Shenhu is the Chinese Federation’s high powered surprise mech. It was only working on 40%, so I assume it will be kicking more ass sometime later in the series. Kallen is captured this episode and I can only imagine how many doujins this will spawn because of it, a less appealing boom than the bunny girl kallen doujin wave.

Xingke… So mud was your master plan!? After a long while of using your land tactics, this is starting to sound repetitive no matter how new and innovated the technique is. The little back to back banter and plan revealing between Xingke and Lelouch was somewhat boring. I would have been happy if they just used the Hadron Cannons to begin with.

Foreshadowing! Anya has some link to Lelouch from childhood maybe. I would like to see this developed just to see some more of Anya, that actually does some plot development rather than her just doing near nothing for all her screen time. Seriously though, I really like Anya, I swear.

And finally, the usual end of episode big shocker. Oh I am so surprised… I am sure it will be simply explained and not so important later. It has been that way for a while and frankly, I am now used to it. Oh how the show has fallen. I missed the day of the first season so much. Hope the next episode picks up, with Zero backed into a corner, I hope to see something cool at the very least.

If this was all the show had fallen to, I wouldn’t be complaining.

Yeah, I Am Back

Exams, there are done
So back to blogging for me
But there’s a problem…

So huge the backlog;
Code Geass, Macross, Druaga!
So much Anime.

So forgive me but — -

Ah forget it, working in Haiku is way too taxing this late at night. Anyways, exams are over. I am free until University starts in October. I have become more active in my time off. I have so much anime to blog. I have so much anime to watch before that can happen. So the blogging will happen but probably slowly at first. Probably Code Geass first. It has been a while and without blogging becoming a habit, I have been easily distracted and took so long to pull a post together.

Some more personal things:
I need to get back to some art - I so want to make some fan art. I got some Warhammer 40000 to get ready, as I eagerly anticipate the new edition of the rules coming out soon and need an Army large enough to really test run them well, and well, I really want to get some war raging done this summer. I have some studio time booked this summer as well, with little time to practice (my guitar is picking up dust and I fear for its functionality) I will have to improvise (hopefully it won’t be bad). I got so much going on this summer it is going to be as hectic and as packed as going to school. orz

ToLoveRu 11 - I Was Convinced Back With Yami

Alright, it has been since episode 6 since I kept up with this, and from there it was all sporadic skims of the episodes because well, I was lazy and at this point in the season, something had to be trimmed. Kanokon got cut down a while ago but I plan to marathon that one.

So anyways, recently I came upon information that had me rushing back, skipping episodes because at this point it is not worth it (I’ll watch it marathon-ed at one point) just to get to episode 11, not because of news that the story became phenomenal, not because there were account of awesome fight scenes (one nice fight here though), not because they went an episode without the fan service (yeah, like that is going to happen) but only because they have introduced the character Yami, my favourite character from my read of the manga.

It is at this point owing to Yami and Mikan being my favourite characters in this series, should I throw in the towel and just admit I am a lolicon. T_T Thinking back on it I skimmed most of the episode except for the Yami parts but oh well. Thought she was depicted well in the anime - good voicing, good animation and good character. I swear at some point, I will eventually get to watching the whole of the series up to date. I still have a week of finals left (the harder modules D: ) so I will probably get back to the anime after I recover from the celebrating of the end of college (well, equivalent High School) sandwiched between the end of that and the start of my University life. The place I end up at largely depend on this week’s exams being worth so much of it. I should be studying but I haven’t.

What follows is Yami pic spam…

Yeah. Almost likely, I have become Lolicon. And on that note I want this Yami figure. So badly.

Code Geass R2 09 - Take The Loli And Run

Kaguya-hime! After two weeks I have missed Kaguya Code Geass so much. I missed the alluring characters and over the top plot. What I didn’t miss were the annoying huge end of episode cliffhangers, even though this week’s one was definitely one to talk about.

The Typical Harem Scene

I have played around with the idea that Code Geass could easily function as a harem anime and this little incident does seem to support the idea. Typical harem moment except Kallen is the one on top. One has to wonder when everyone else is busy establishing their new base why Kallen is in such a get up, and then you remember she was the fan service machine at the beginning of the series.

May I just say, it is glorious to see C.C. eating pizza again, and the triumphant return of Cheese-kun. C.C. is very relaxed about the compromising situation which makes her interruption all the more better. I now really wish for a Code Geass spin off without the whole ‘take down Britainia’ thing going on more with a school romance thing. I would definitely want to see that. XD

Last note on the subject, this was such a funny shot. Lelouch is a lucky man.

Where The Men Give A Nod To Lloyd

Cecile has shown already that she has marvellous assets, but this episode, she goes conservative going for a cultural look befitting the hosts. Seriously, she wore the skimpy dress at a private meeting with Zero with the Knights but this here. I am a little disappointed but not so much.

Lloyd, ever the resourceful man, has Millay in the skimpy dress. Lloyd should be a man to envy considering how the women decide to dress like around him. I am disappointed that the Knights were kept to their uniform only because I wanted to see Anya in something other than that uniform.

Prince Schniezel turns up as well, with some arm candy who just happens to be Nina. You know, she isn’t all that bad when she wasn’t so insane or Euphie obsessive. Schniezel also makes a lot more talk than even the first Prince who is actually marrying Tianzi.

Where The Loli Strikes

Kaguya-hime. Here she shines, showing up with the most outrageous guest ever and being all so relaxed about it. It is made clear here that Suzaku and her are definitely related, as cousins. She also talks him down pretty well, talking about the time Zero saved him. So not just the pretty Japanese princess, she does bring something to the table. More reason to like her.

And one last time - Kaguya-hime!!! I loved her posing here and getting right into the other party’s face as they came to confront them. Koji Oe has a good almost frame by frame of Kaguya at her best in this episode. Man, she is so awesome.

This Is Not Checkmate

As a chess playing Britainnian (so what if my best game was when I was drunk) I feel it is my time to rage here at the show of horrible chess playing. Though all we saw was the end really, it is an illegal move to make any move where the King would become in check which explains my surprised gasp at this move, however I really raged when Schniezel said Checkmate, which it so plainly is not considering Schniezel’s King was in check and Lelouch was still able to make a move. I call ridiculous on all of this and then I remembered it was Code Geass, so I stopped being serious.

Ah, there is the crazy Nina we all remember minus the table humping. She shows a wide range from racist to homicidal here, being a huge bitch casting aside her friendship with Kallen so easily because she identified herself as Japanese, and brandishing that knife on Zero in a situation where even the Knights of Rounds did nothing. Calling Euphie her goddess only made her seem crazier.

Where Zero Crosses The Line

So at the wedding, I am intrigued by Kaguya’s new get up. Her last outfit was very nice. Anyways, onto the wedding, Xingke seemed to interrupt at the traditional ‘raise your objection now’ section of the marriage rite. I would have felt better if we had some of the wedding stuff before the interruption to build up the tension (but that could be because this is what I expect from these situations. I am a romantic at heart).

So the back story between Xingke and TIanzi has been elaborated on and it was sweet and touching really, what with the pinky promise. For some reason I am really reminded of Kurenai here, what with the little girl who really just wants to get outside of where she had been confined to and the the older boy. Although, Xingke has more questionable feelings for Tianzi me thinks. Tianzi at the altar calling out for Xingke with her pinky raised high was an adorable scene.

And Zero is on the scene, ruining a perfectly good reunion between Xingke and Tianzi. He is not earning any points at all, and his whole justice thing will probably take a hit with him having a gun up to the Empress’ head. I have absolutely no idea where this plan of Lelouch’s is going and I am assuming this ridiculous turn of events is Sunrise at it’s old ‘we need a cliffhanger at the end’ scheme again. It wasn’t that it looked like he was adding another loli to his (underused) harem or the gun to her head, it was the maniacal laughter accompanying it that annoyed me.

The Parting Shot - Champagne in the Desert

Look who is back! Orange-kun, oh how we missed you! Alas, you have stopped becoming the butt of every joke and now ever so badass. Well, you would have if not for the absolutely horrendous mask you have on - it is worst than any masked character from Gundam. But yes, he is back, and from the sounds of it he will be making a move soon and he has his old spinning top of doom back - the Knight Giga Fortress. I hope to see more from him, as he made a large impression with his entrance at the end of the last season. To which I am reminded that the Gawain has been salvaged and built anew or at least salvaged to make some cooler frames. There were new frames now in the Black Knights’ possession and the preview for the next episode shows a lot of action. Now that, I am definitely looking forward to! XD

Macross Frontier 10 - Kiss Kiss

The Highlights

Sheryl in a Swimsuit.

Sheryl Kiss

Ranka Kiss

Plot Development

Thoughts

Well, I am sure there were a lot of references here that I just didn’t realise were there. Ruki passed me Macross 7 and Zero a while back but I haven’t watched them yet. Seems I can even get distracted from anime easily. orz

Lack of chance to fanboy about it notwithstanding, it was still a really good episode. All around development from the main cast but more sizably from Ranka. Finally, she is no longer taking the sulking in the sidelines approach to the love triangle springing and fighting against Sheryl winning over Alto, taking the role fully knowing she will need to give Alto some action.

Not that I don’t love Sheryl, but it is a relief for someone on the Ranka boat to see he finally growing up and getting her moment especially after seeing Sheryl and Alto having so many moments together recently. On that note, their kiss in this episode was sweet and the off hand teasing interplay between them afterwards was cute.

On the other development side, there was this weird inclusion of a ‘Hydra’ that went and attacked Ranka. Did the other actress die and they carried on? Anyways, Alto coming to the rescue and has a weird stylised gun fight, which he loses (looked like it was painful too) just for Ranka to be saved by Brere, who we find out is somewhat cyborg like and badass. Ranka mutters nii-san on seeing him. The plot thickens and Ranka now seems pretty important in the run of things.

Ludicrous as it seems, Leon goes undercover in his haircut and flamboyant Hawaiian shirt having secret dealings. With a not so covert (but pretty cool) exchange of data, he gets given what looks to be the crystal from Sheryl’s ear ring. How they managed to find that in the huge battleground after an explosion, I don’t know. So it seems Sheryl now has more importance to the overall plot thickening.

The Home Stretch

In the end, the important thing of this episode, was Ranka finally stepping up from third rate and second string finally taking the spotlight in her own rite. May I just say, this must be a huge blow to Miss Macross, who just ignored by Sheryl already and is now upstaged by Ranka. The fact that the theme song for the movie went from Sheryl to Ranka, really puts her in the spotlight, and things are looking bright for her future. The moment she walked up to the stage, with the uplifting music and the applause, it was just such a wonderful moment.

From the previews, it seems to be getting off to a fast start, even taking glamour shots already and her own concert. I hope to the new songs which I assume come out in the last single planned for release. I want it so badly. T__T

The Passing Shot

The smaller thing this episode, was confirmation on some of Alto’s past, and his old acting. I just love his pose here, he has just become so whipped by Sheryl. XD

Things are surely looking good and it just makes me want more but sadly, we have a week off. Thankfully this means I can really slow down the priorities over the next two weeks in terms of blogging, owing to the fact that the main chunk of my finals is coming up. Why they decided to put all the harder modules in one concentrated burst I don’t know. So probably Geass and some random procrastination posts will be the only thing happening here until the next Macross comes out.

Also, I spent way too much time on this post and barely got anything done… Ah, what I would do to procrastinate. Well, time to hit the books. The Macross Frontier OST on my ipod is making it all the more enjoyable. After this episode, I am completely in love with Aimo.

The Review

What word to define this soundtrack album? Grandeur. Every insert song, beautifully mixed with either May’n (Sheryl) or Megumi Nakajima (Ranka) is just stunning to listen to. Particularly each of Sheryl’s On Stage versions, with it’s little stage and live details added in, make for an even grander atmospheric sound. So much, I am actually liking them more than the cleaner studio versions. I really love ‘How bout my Star?’ - both Sheryl’s dancebeat centric rendition and Ranka’s J-pop version.

It is easy to tell that this is Kanno Yoko’s work, spectacularly done. From some tracks like Vital Force and Zero Hour being grand swellings of music, gripping and thrilling. I can’t help but be reminded of Pirate of the Caribbean for some reason during Big Boys and Tally Ho! Then again, maybe I am getting the wrong image, more so it should be that of a naval battle, considering that space fights are somewhat a mix between nautical and aero fights. With the introduction of the Macross battleship, it is looking more so like this image.

Alto’s theme and Aimo are quite slow but powerful really, at times haunting. I particularly like the longer version of Aimo - Tori no Hito with it’s orchestral accompaniment. Even these slower pieces are as captivating and enticing.

All in all, this has turned out to be one of the best OSTs I have ever listened to ever and it was almost expected considering how heavy the concentration on music is in Macross. I was actually expecting separate albums for Ranka’s songs but it has been bunched here and are all excellent in full. A few extras as well, along with the Nyan-Nyan comercial song, the one Rana sang as a carrot and a roaringly hilarious choral SMS theme. Definately, one of the Best OSTs ever.

The Score: 10/10

Negima OVA PV Is Out- Time To Get My Hopes Up

I so adore the Negima manga, but I have been again and again disappointed for an anime. Not so much for Negima!? because I went in already knowing it was not going to be manga faithful but this has gotten me excited. OVAs seem to be the way to go obviously and I have my hopes up now for how it will go. Oh whatever, I gave up on that a long time ago, I will enjoy this no matter what since my expectations will never be so high. It does look quite good though. Man, if everything was OVA quality, we would find new things to bitch about.

Here’s hoping! *crosses fingers* Also to note, is this the return of Happy Material? The song I got all the remixes of. Man, I loved that song. XD
